Gypsy jazz group ‘Belleville’ has been performing in and around Perth since 2011 at numerous venues such as The Ellington Jazz Club, The Fremantle Arts Centre, The Queens Hotel, The Belgian Beer Cafe and Clancy’s Fish pub (City Beach) to name a few. The band has also performed at the Oz Manouche Festival in Brisbane (2012), the Perth International Arts Festival in Albany as part of their Great Southern Program (2014) and the Perth International Jazz Festival (2014). Belleville primarily performs the music of the progenitor of the gypsy jazz style, belgian guitar legend Django Reinhardt, but also draws on works of some of the modern gypsy jazz masters such as Bireli Lagrene and Gonzalo Begara. The bands repertoire also draws on classic jazz and latin standards, as well as traditional gypsy music.

Ruby Boots is the alter ego of Singer Songwriter Bex Chilcott. A sound reminiscent of old country swagger with a modern day edge, soaring and up front vocals and classy hooks. Ruby Boots has toured the nation with The Stray Sisters (The Waifs) in lead up to the release of her anticipated debut album “Solitude” featuring a slew of musicians that are staples in Australian Music today such as Davey Lane (You Am I), Jordie Lane and Vikki Thorn (The Waifs).
Some say it may have something to do with her Scottish-Italian bloodline that fuels Ruby Boots’ raw and endearingly honest performances, they have a beautiful vulnerability to them that ropes in the listener. If for nothing else, that bloodline has got to be a contributor to her bellowing and signature voice that pours emotion into every room it meets, a life force of its own, it fills every corner of a room with ease. The songs are both bold and fragile, open and poetic.
The Woods, where choice cuts of timbers are selected to be crafted into rich warmly toned guitars and ukuleles. Craftsmanship not unlike this dynamic duos artisan ability to compose songs of a charm and allure that resonate a sensibility beyond their time. Melodic vocal harmonies and comforting chordal movements are only to be eclipsed by the charisma and occasional quirkiness of these stage loving showmen.
The Woods are solid in musicality and have a wooden resolve for performance. Check out their YouTube channel to see their latest.
